Okay, NaNo’ers! October is almost half-way over which means National Novel Writing Month or, NaNoWriMo is just about 2 weeks away. Are you ready?
I happened to be at a horse show yesterday, walking around playing spectator when I came across a friend and fellow NaNo’er. Immediately she said, “I was thinking about you on the drive over and figured you probably had several story lines already worked out.” She was right. I do. The hard part is deciding!
This is where preparation comes in. Now is the time to prepare. Outline, sketch, mind map. Do whatever it takes to get ready. If you are still really stuck check out the Young Writers Program on the Nano website. They have awesome workbooks for highschool aged students. Try following one of those. It just might spark some great ideas.
Until then, start watching everything going on around you. Look at people and imagine their backstories. What skeletons might be in their closets? What dramas might be going on in their lives? What if they were aliens, or supernatural beings in disguise? You’ll be amazed at the scenes and ideas that come to your mind. Nano is about throwing them all in together and just being creative for creativity sake.
Go wild. Let your creative imagination run free!
